Replacing older, deficient quarters for the SWAT, Bomb Disposal and Canine units, the new facility is situated on the campus of the Philadelphia Police Academy. By co-locating these units within the new facility, the Police Department intends to reinforce initiatives creating a unified Tactical Response Team within the force. Through joint operational and training activities these units shall be able to more effectively work within this developing cross platform environment.
Programmatically, the new site shall serve as the operational base for each unit and support on-going training conducted by each group that services both PPD forces as well as outside agencies.
Adjacencies to existing training elements on the Police Academy site, including bomb and firing ranges, EVOC Driving course and K-9 exercise/training yards further supports training programs for all units.
